El equipo tricolor de Copa Davis viajó ayer lunes a Bolivia, para realizar su primera ronda clasificativa en el Grupo II de la Zona Americas, siendo la cita en el Club de Tenis Santa Cruz, en Santa Cruz de la Sierra, del 8 al 10 que son las fechas de confrontaciones, organizado por la Federación Internacional de Tenis (ITF).
La delegación nacional, está encabezada por el estelar Víctor Estrella, raqueta número uno, actual campeón en tres ocasiones de los Futures-ITF-Los Tres Ojos-RD, ubicándose 303 en el ranking individual y 590 en dobles.
Jugará con su hermano Henry Estrella, quien ha competido en Copa Davis desde el 2005; el experimentado Johnson García y José Hernández "El Bebo", extraordinario juvenil y futura promesa quisqueyana.
El Inmortal del Deporte (Tenis), Rafael Moreno "Yovani", es el capitán; acompañado del médico-fisiatra Arturo Saviñón y tesorero de la Federación Dominicana de Tenis; el ingeniero Sergio Tobal, es el delegado nacional de Copa Davis.
El selectivo de Bolivia, está integrado por Mauricio Doria-Medina, José-Roberto Velasco, Mauricio Estivariz y Diego Camacho, dirigidos por Carlos Alvarado; La Federación Boliviana de Tenis es presidida por Edgar Aguirre Antezano. En el Grupo II de la Zona Americas, está integrada por Bolivia, Bahamas, El Salvador, Netherlands Antilles, Paraguay, Venezuela y la República Dominicana.
La Copa Davis 2008, es patrocinada por BNP Paribas, relojes Rolex, BOSS Hugo Boss, Kia Motors, NH Hoteles, NTT Europe Online, TTK, Turismo Madrid y Wilson. Informaciones ofrecidas por el licenciado Persio Maldonado, presidente de FEDOTENIS.
